Prevention Training and Network

Prevention Training

The Mental Health Commission’s (Commission) Prevention branch provides a range of professional development opportunities to support services in the delivery of alcohol and other drug (AOD) and prevention initiatives.

These training, resources, and professional development opportunities are targeted specifically at staff whose role includes AOD prevention. This includes Community Alcohol and Drug Service staff, health promotion officers, police, relevant non-government organisations, School Drug Education and Road Aware (SDERA) staff and Local Drug Action Group members.

In addition, the Commission's prevention staff can tailor AOD prevention training specifically for organisations who are directly engaged in the development and delivery of AOD management plans. Training can be delivered through face-to-face workshops and videoconferencing.

Prevention Network

The Prevention Network aims to assist people working in the alcohol and other drug (AOD) prevention sector to carry out their role.

It provides an avenue for cross-learning, networking, receiving updates on prevention research and the dissemination of best practice in AOD prevention via coordinated emails, tele and video conferences.

Involvement in the Network will include email updates and an invitation to participate in video and tele conferences.

This is part of a coordinated strategy to build the capacity of AOD prevention staff across Western Australia and will compliment other AOD prevention strategies implemented by the Mental Health Commission, including prevention training and resources.
