Mental Health Inpatient Snapshot Survey

The Mental Health Inpatient Snapshot Survey (MHISS) is an annual census conducted across Western Australian Health Service Providers.

Why this research matters

The MHISS provides a point in time profile of people admitted to a mental health inpatient unit and their accommodation, treatment and support needs. It also identifies the number of people that could be discharged if appropriate accommodation, treatment and support services were available.

Who can complete a survey?

The MHISS is conducted on a single day across all publicly funded mental health inpatient sites. The survey is completed by an inpatient Nurse Unit Manager and informed by prior collaborative care planning with the person and/or their carer.
