Mental Health Commission
The Government has launched two new mental health services, Medicare Mental Health Check In and 1800MEDICARE.
Medicare Mental Health Check In is a new digital mental health service that will provide early support for those experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mild mental health challenges, or transient distress.
This free service won’t require a GP referral or a diagnosis, and anyone aged over 16 can call the Medicare Mental Health phone service on 1800 595 212 to see if this service is appropriate to support their needs.
1800MEDICARE is a 24/7 phone service operated by registered nurses to advise callers of appropriate health services for their needs, based on their symptoms. To help avoid callers needing to repeat themselves, the registered nurse will help them book appointments or connect directly with a service, if possible.
