Applications open for the Volunteer Drug and Alcohol Counsellors’ Training Program

Applications are now open for the Mental Health Commission’s free Volunteer Drug and Alcohol Counsellors’ Training Program, delivered in partnership with Curtin University, Edith Cowan University (ECU) and the National Drug Research Institute (NDRI).

The program includes a five‑month intensive training course starting 6 June 2026, followed by a 12‑month supervised placement with a participating alcohol and other drug (AOD) service.

Participants will gain counselling skills, sector knowledge, supervised experience and a certificate of participation.

More than 800 volunteers have completed the program since it began, with many going on to work in the AOD sector.
