Mental Health Commission
The 2026-27 WA State Budget has been handed down by the Treasurer and will deliver $1.77 billion to mental health and alcohol and other drug services.
Key initiatives for mental health and alcohol and other drugs include:
- $15.44 million to establish a coordinated, community-based mental health crisis response service
- $16.56 million to open 25 mental health beds at Joondalup Health Campus
- $52.32 million to continue the Active Recovery Team Program
- $43.24 million to continue the Ambulance Mental Health Co-Response initiative
- $16 million for the continuation of the Infant, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Hub in Bunbury
- $1.36 million invested for continued access to perinatal mental health support in the South West
- $6.61 million to operate mental health beds for children and adolescents across two locations while refurbishments are carried out
- $48.64 million towards the continuation of the Social and Emotional Wellbeing services, supporting and improving the wellbeing of Aboriginal people
- $8.83 million to support the statewide expansion of Crisis Connect to help ensure mental health crisis support is available to children living in rural and remote Western Australia
- $29.73 million to reduce and prevent suicide in Western Australia which includes:
- $12.9 million to ensure the sustainability for existing suicide prevention services;
- $7.2 million for the continuation of short-term, non-medical residential crisis support services for young people experiencing suicidal distress;
- $4.9 million for longer-term support for children and young people in the South West bereaved by suicide; and
- $4.8 million for programs addressing regional community need through the expansion of the suicide prevention workforce
- $5.23 million to address family and domestic violence which includes: -
- $3.5 million to continue the Family Violence Perpetrator Intervention Pilot Program;
- $1.36 million investment to continue the Model for Violence Prevention Pilot;
- $370,000 to implement initiatives across mental health and alcohol and other drug sectors to help build safe and inclusive communities.
The State Government is also investing $43.78 million to help ensure the ongoing sustainability of a range of mental health and alcohol and other drug programs and services.
The funding aligns with the Western Australian Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs Strategy 2026-2031.
