Have your say - Draft Scope of Service for the Youth Step Up Step Down Service

Published on 8 Mar 2024

A draft Scope of Service for WA's first Youth Step Up/Step Down Service (the Service) is now available for public comment.

The Service will offer short-term, residential support to young people experiencing mental health issues, with or without co-occurring alcohol and other drug issues. It will offer young people a temporary, safe place to stay well in the community, out of hospital and connected to their family, friends and community.

By providing youth-focused, recovery-based supports, the Service seeks to actively support young people to achieve their individual recovery goals and promotes overall youth health and wellbeing. The Service will operate in the Perth metropolitan area but will not be restricted to metropolitan residents.

Along with findings from the Mental Health Commission’s Final Consultation Report, released in 2022, learnings from WA’s adult Step Up/Step Down services and Youth Step Up/Step Down services in other Australian states have informed this draft Scope of Service.

If you would like to review the draft Youth Step Up/Step Down Scope of Service, you can access it here.

We also invite you to share your views on how the Service should be designed and delivered to best meet the needs of young people in Western Australia.

Please note, following this round of feedback there will not be any further consultations on the Scope of Service for this initiative.

Written feedback can be provided by email to CSSM.servicedevelopment@mhc.wa.gov.au by 4pm on 05 April 2024.
