North Metropolitan Health Service is expanding mental health support at Fremantle Hospital!

Construction is underway for 40 new mental health beds at V block. The redevelopment includes 20 secure beds, 10 for open adults, and a 10-bed unit for older adults with neurological behaviour needs. The project also introduces a 24-hour mental health urgent care service and a new neurostimulation unit.

The total inpatient mental health beds will increase by over 60 per cent, from 64 to 104. The new 24-hour service aims to ease pressure on Fiona Stanley Hospital's emergency department, offering dedicated crisis care for acute mental health patients.

The purpose-built facility will have swipe-controlled single bedrooms with ensuites and TVs, treatment rooms, sensory modulation spaces, and separate dining and lounge areas. Contemporary design principles, include natural light, landscaped outdoor courtyards, and balconies.

The service fosters staff-patient interaction, with collaboration hubs throughout the wards.
