Youth Mental Health Sub Network
The Mental Health Network includes a unique Sub Network structure.
The Youth Mental Health Sub Network was established on 6 November 2015, to address the difficulty in coordinating such a large network and to support the Mental Health Network to engage with and improve outcomes for specific cohorts of mental health service users.
The establishment of the Youth Mental Health Sub Network followed a thorough process that sought to be inclusive, representative and reflect the concerns and views of the sector.
The Youth Mental Health Sub Network has a broad membership that is supported by a Steering Committee and is sponsored by the North Metropolitan Health Service.
The Steering Committee is co-chaired by Ms Lyn Millett and Mr Warwick Smith.
The Youth Mental Health Sub Network Establishment Report provides background on this Sub Network and can be found here.
The Youth Mental Health Sub Network initiated the Informing Youth Suicide Prevention for Western Australia report to inform the youth suicide prevention strategy for Western Australia. This project was made possible through collaboration between young people, their families and friends, youth mental health workers and researchers. The report was presented to the Mental Health Commission in December 2019.
‘They Told Me “This Isn’t a Hotel”: Young people’s experiences and perceptions of care when presenting to the emergency department with suicide-like behaviour’ was co-authored by Lyn Millet and Warwick Smith, Co-Chairs of the Youth Mental Health Sub Network Steering Committee together with authors from the Telethon Kids Institute, Centre for Child Health Research, University of Western Australia, Commissioner for Children and Youth People Wester Australia, Headspace and Mineral Resources Limited.
The Youth Mental Health Sub Network has endorsed the following documents:
